Carbon Chair
Launched in 2004 for Dutch manufacturer Moooi, the iconic Carbon Chair was a collaboration between Dutch designers Marcel Wanders and Bertjan Pot and an exercise in material experimentation. Paying tribute to the Eames Plastic Chairs designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames, the Carbon Chair, or 'carbon copy', is made from hand-coiled black carbon fibre and epoxy resin resulting in a chair that is super light and super strong. The woven seat and finely detailed legs are completely self supporting, removing the need for a frame. The legs of the chair are attached to the seat with screws, the only metal components in the whole chair, and the random patterning of crisscrossed fibres provides both decoration and strength. The Carbon Chair and Carbon Bar Stool range continues the material typology of the Random Light collection developed by Pot and first launched by Moooi in 2002.
Our design consultants are ready to help. Our online store is just a small edit of our full collection, for more options and information on sizes, fabrics and finishes, please visit us in-store or enquire now.
